Honey Used to Treat Wounds

Bismarck Doctor Craig Lambrecht is using a new honey-based dressing to apply to wounds It s called Medihoney and it was recently approved by the U S Food and Drug Administration Lambrecht is an emergency physician in Bismarck and he also is in the National Guard and worked at a pediatric burn clinic in Iraq He says he used the honey-based product in Iraq on patients with severe burns from cooking fuels open fires and explosions He says Iraqi families soon preferred the honey over other treatments because it was natural and because the honey dressings don t need to be changed as often as traditional ones He says the children also healed more quickly and with less complications Honey used as medicine is not new Egyptians applied honey to wounds some 4 000 years ago
